Event Summary

The Royal Wootton Bassett Triathlon is back for it's 8th year on 8th May 2022.

 

The event is set in the beautiful, historic market town in Wiltshire. The 400m pool swim is in the local leisure centre. The 20k bike is a flat and fast scenic route around the surrounding villages and the 5k run a fast, flat out and back run towards the local rugby club and back. 

The event has donated over £20,000 to local charities including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, British Heart Foundation, Alzheimers Society and Stroke Association and will continue this key focus alongside providing the best triathlon experience for each individual who enters.

You can enter either as an individual or relay to suit all ages and abilities, there will be an event village including; exhibitors, retailers, food stands, music and coaching experts, helping to create an exciting morning for all.

Event Information

Registration & Start times


Registration:

Open between 06:00am- 07:45am.

Registration takes place at the race hub inside the school grounds. This is the same location as this year’s transition, first run and finish line.

There will be no registration after 07:45am, if you arrive after this time unfortunately you will not be able to race. BTF Members You will be required to show your BTF Race License before collecting your race pack. If unable to provide physical proof (this can be digital) you will be required to pay for a day membership. Non BTF members If you are not a British Triathlon Federation member you will need to show a form of photographic ID. You have already paid for your day license when you originally registered for the event online. At registration, you will be issued with the following: Race number Timing Chip Ankle Band Race Stickers for helmet and bike (these must be attached before entering transition) Swim cap For the relay event, only one person from the team needs to register

Start Time:

8am is the first wave and we will operate a rolling start of 6 people per minute for 30 minutes.

The categories for both men and women are as follows:

17 - 19 = C / 20 - 24 = D / 25 - 29 = E / 30 - 34 = F / 35 - 39 = G / 40 - 44 = H / 45 - 49 = I / 50 - 54 = J / 55 - 59 = K / 60 - 64 = L / 65 - 69 = M

Briefing Time will be 10 minutes before your wave start. Please be on pool side 10 mins before your wave start. Race numbers and timing chips will be collected from the registration desk on race day. You do not receive anything by post. Details of allocated bib numbers will be available online prior to the event and will also be displayed in the registration area at the venue. Do not open a race envelope unless it has your name and number on it. Attached members must show a valid licence at registration or purchase our day insurance. Competitors must attend the race briefing on the day. Information on the course and rules relative to competitor safety and the race will be outlined.




Routes


Race Distance Sprint Triathalon 400m Pool swim (16 lengths). Please arrive 10 minutes before your wave for the race briefing. The swim is in the pool. You will be swimming 400m/ 16 lengths. You will be expected to count your own lengths however there will be someone checking you count them correctly.

Bike - 20km - The roads are open to traffic so take care.

5k run (Flat and Fast)

The run course offers a fast, flat out and back running lap. You will run out the of the leisure centre into the school before exiting towards Ballards Ash. You will complete two loops of Ballards Ash (The Rugby Club) and will be given a lap band for each lap. Once you have completed the two loops you will head back towards the school via the same route. The terrain is a mixture of concrete and grass. The finish area is on the school field next to the race hub this will be made clear at registration.




Parking


There will be free parking at the school for all athletes and volunteers. The parking postcode is the same as above.

The parking is located in the Royal Wootton Bassett Academy school car park, registration will also be located here. There will be clear signage and marshals directing you on the day.




Race Rules


Race Numbers - Your number must be worn on the front (if using number belt please move to your back for the cycle). Numbers must not be folded, cut or mutilated in any way. Cycle Helmets - BSI, ANSI or SNELL approved helmets are compulsory and must be worn throughout the cycle section. They must be fastened prior to removing your bike from the rack and not undone or removed until after re-racking your bike. Transition - No riding is allowed in the transition area at any time. You must run with your bikes to the mount zone and on your return to transition dismount in the zone before entering transition. Check out where mount and dismount lines are before the race. No mobile phones in transition please. Cycle Conduct - Competitors must make sure that their cycle is in a safe and roadworthy condition. All competitors must keep to the left and overtake on the right. Please take note of signs and obey marshal instructions. Drafting - This is a non-drafting race for all categories. During the cycle section competitors must not take pace behind or beside another competitor or vehicle. You must be 7 metres behind the front wheel of the competitor in front, apart from when overtaking - there is no side-by-side riding. When overtaking you must pass the competitor in front within 15 seconds. It is the responsibility of the cyclist being overtaken to drop back once the overtaking cyclist's front wheel is ahead of his/hers. Competitors are not allowed to draft from any vehicle including the lead vehicle. NO headphones or MP3 players– No headphones to be worn on the bike or run, this is for your safety. Disqualification - The following infringements will result in disqualification: Abusive language, breaking road traffic regulations, dangerous conduct/riding, failing to obey marshals or the police, nudity, outside assistance, unsporting impedance, 2 x drafting violations, course irregularities (short cut), tampering with other competitors equipment. Medals, Prizes, Results and Photos


Please exchange your timing chip for your medal at the finish. The prize giving will take place at roughly 15 mins after the last finisher. This will be near the finish. There will be prizes for the following. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Male and Female overall. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Male and Female Vet (50+). 1st, 2nd, 3rd Relay Overall Results will be displayed on a screen throughout the morning and at prize giving, then displayed on the DB MAX website.
